The Quarter 2 (April to June) 2024 Registrar General Quarterly Tables were published this morning at 9.30am.
Key points
- The statistics show a provisional total of 4,365 deaths registered in quarter one of 2024.
- At an overall level there were 1,105 (23.3%) deaths due to cancer, 995 (22.8%) deaths due to circulatory disease, and 566 (13.0%) deaths due to respiratory diseases (excluding Covid-19 deaths).
- Looking in more detail the leading cause of death for all persons in Northern Ireland in quarter 2 2024 was dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. This was also true for females but for males the leading cause of death was ischaemic heart disease.
- A total of 2,027 marriages were registered in quarter two of 2024, and 12 civil partnerships.
- The number of births registered in quarter two of 2024 was 4,836, which is continuing the slight downward trend observed before the pandemic.
