Weekly deaths tables – week ending 18 August 2023 | Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency

The tables containing data on deaths registered for the week ending 18 August 2023 were released at 9.30am today.

Key points

The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 18 August 2023 (week 33) was 302, 19 more than the previous week and also four less than the 2018-2022 5-year average (306).
Four deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate were registered in week 33 of 2023, half as many as in the previous week. These represented 1.3% of all deaths registered in that week.
For 2023, by 18 August, 49.8% of deaths were males and 50.2% were females. Approximately two-thirds (67.1%) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
From week 1 of 2023 to week ending 11 August 2023, there have been 10,986 deaths. 5,227 (47.6%) took place in hospital, 1,877 (17.1%) in care homes and 3,882 (35.3%) at residential addresses, hospices or other locations.

The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 18 August (including those registered up to and including 23 August 2023) was 217.
At time of reporting, four Covid-19 related deaths had occurred in the week ending 18 August, bringing the total number of deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate having occurred from week 1 of 2023 to 18 August 2023 (including those registered up to and including 23 August 2023), to 296.
