The EU-wide definition of ‘innovation active’ is as follows: Introduction of a new or significantly improved product (goods or service) or process; Engagement in innovation projects not yet complete or abandoned; New and significantly improved forms of organisation, business structures or practices and marketing concepts or strategies. It excludes expenditure and activities linked to innovation.
In the three-year period from 2016 to 2018, 32% of enterprises in NI were estimated to be active in innovation.
