Young people not in education, employment or training (NEET): January to March 2021

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) results released at 9.30am today indicate that there were an estimated 21,000 young people (aged 16 to 24 years) in Northern Ireland who were NEET in January to March 2021.

Key points

  • In January to March 2021 there were an estimated 21,000 young people (aged 16-24) in NI who were not in education, employment or training (NEET).  This is 10.4% of all people aged 16-24 years.
  • The NEET rate for females and males were similar (females – 10.2% and males – 10.6%).
  • The UK NEET rate was 9.5%.

In accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No.2) Accessibility Regulations 2018, we are working to improve the accessibility of our outputs. As a result, the format of the Young People Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) tables has changed. There has been no change to the amount and type of data, only changes to its presentation.
