Registrar General Annual Reports 2020 - 2022

Date published: 21 November 2024

Statistics:

Please note: The completion of the Review of Suicide Statistics led to a revision of totals which applies to the years 2015 to 2020. The annual cause of death data available in the 2020 and 2021 Registrar General Reports reflect the initial findings which were published in May 2022, however they do not reflect the full findings that were published in November 2022. For most recent totals on deaths due to suicide for the years 2015 to 2020 please either use the latest reports on suicide statistics or refer to the latest editions of the Registrar General Reports from 2022 onwards (both of which also contain rates calculated using the rebased NI population estimates released at the end of summer 2023). Table 6.4 on detailed cause of death for the 2023 Registrar General report has also been extended to include a table 6.4b which gives time series information so users can obtain totals for an eleven-year period.

The tables that accompany the Annual Report of the Registrar General were reviewed and consolidated for the 2022 edition with the formerly, separately published annual summary tables for each topic area to produce a single, streamlined set of annual tables. Details of the changes made and where to find specific information in the newly revised tables are available in the RG tables lookup document . Additionally, users should note that they may see changes in any time series tables containing rates based on population between the 2021 and 2022 editions. Any population-based rates covring the years 2012 to 2021 were recalculated for the 2022 edition using the rebased NI population estimates released at the end of summer 2023.
