The Quarter 4 (October to December) 2023 Registrar General Quarterly Tables were published this morning at 9.30am.
Key points
- The statistics show a provisional total of 4,411 deaths registered in quarter four of 2023. This brings the year total for 2023 to 17,254.
- 1,104 (25.0%) deaths were due to cancer, 993 (22.5%) deaths due to circulatory disease, and 554 (12.6%) deaths due to respiratory diseases (excluding Covid-19 deaths).
- A total of 1,574 marriages were registered in quarter four of 2023, and 10 civil partnerships. This makes the 2023 calendar year total 7,494 for marriages and 39 for civil partnerships.
- The number of births registered in quarter four of 2023 was 4,763, which is continuing the slight downward trend observed before the pandemic. In total 19,971 births were registered in 2023.
