The tables containing data on deaths registered for the weeks up to week ending 14 March 2025 were released at 9.30am today.
Key points
Date of Registration
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 14 March (week 11) was 385, 41 more than the previous week (344).
- The number of expected deaths for week 11 was estimated at 325, using the methodology based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 11 was estimated at 60.
- For the week ending 14 March 2025, the number of expected deaths was estimated at 195 for males and 190 for females, using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for the same week, was estimated at 30 for males and 29 for females, using the current method.
- For 2025, by 14 March, 50.3% of deaths were males and 49.7% were females. Over two-thirds (67.7%) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- In 2025, by 14 March, there have been 4,328 deaths registered. 1,999 (46.2%) of these took place in hospital, 797 (18.4%) in care homes and 1,532 (35.4%) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.
- The number of deaths mentioning flu and/or pneumonia on the death certificate registered in week 11 2025 totalled 66, bringing the total for 2025 so far to 927.

- The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 14 March (including those registered up to and including 19 March 2025) was 288.
