The tables containing data on deaths registered for the week ending 2 August 2024 were released at 9.30am today.

Date of registration
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 2 August 2024 (week 31) was 362, 74 more than the previous week.
- The number of expected deaths for week 31 was estimated at 338 using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends, compared to 304 using the previous, 5-year average-based methodology. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 31 was estimated at 24 using the current method and 58 using the previous method.
- For the week ending 2 August 2024, the number of expected deaths was estimated at 173 for males and 165 for females, using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for the same week, was estimated at 18 for males and 6 for females, using the current method.
- For 2024, by 2 August, 51.0 % of deaths were males and 49.0 % were females. Almost two-thirds (65.1 %) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- From week 1 of 2024, to the week ending 2 August, there have been 11,029 deaths registered. 5,040 (45.7 %) of these took place in hospital, 1,863 (16.9 %) in care homes and 4,126 (37.4 %) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.
