The tables containing data on deaths registered for the week ending 28 June 2024 were released at 9.30am today.

Date of registration
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 28 June 2024 (week 26) was 276, 39 less than the previous week.
- The number of expected deaths for week 26 was estimated at 321 using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends, compared to 288 using the previous, 5-year average-based methodology. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 26 was estimated at -45 using the current method and -12 using the previous method.
- For the week ending 28 June 2024, the number of expected deaths was estimated at 164 for males and 158 for females, using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for the same week, was estimated at -27 for males and -19 for females, using the current method.
- For 2024, by 28 June, 50.8 % of deaths were males and 49.2 % were females. Almost two-thirds (64.8 %) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- From week 1 of 2024, to the week ending 28 June, there have been 9,425 deaths registered. 4,274 (45.3 %) of these took place in hospital, 1,592 (16.9 %) in care homes and 3,559 (37.8 %) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.

- The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 28 June (including those registered up to and including 3 July 2024) was 207.
