This statistical bulletin provides users with the latest estimates of construction output carried out in Northern Ireland for Q3-2021. It excludes work carried out by Northern Ireland Construction firms in other parts of the UK or elsewhere.
- The total volume of construction output in the third quarter of 2021 decreased by 0.3% over the quarter, but increased by 7.8% over the year and by 15.2% on a rolling four quarter basis. Construction output is 2.6% above the pre-Coronavirus pandemic level seen in Quarter 4 2019.
- Construction output has seen an increase within the annualised growth rate in Quarter 3 2021 for the second consecutive quarter after five consecutive quarters of decline.
- The decrease in the overall output in Quarter 3 2021 from the previous quarter was driven by decreases within both New Work (-0.9%) and Repair and Maintenance (-3.5%) over the quarter.
- The increase over the year to Quarter 3 2021 in construction output was driven by increases within both New Work (+7.5%) and Repair and Maintenance (+8.6%).
- In Quarter 3 2021, both the Infrastructure (-13.0%) and Other Work (-0.5%) sub-sectors decreased over the quarter, offset by an increase within the Housing (+6.8%) subsector when compared with the previous quarter.
- The quarterly decrease seen within Infrastructure (-13.0%) output in Quarter 3 2021 was the first quarterly decline after four consecutive quarters of growth.
