The tables containing data on deaths registered for the week ending 2 February 2024 were released at 9.30am today.
Key points
Date of registration
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 2 February 2024 (week 5) was 357, 12 less than the previous week, and also 12 less than the 2019-2023 5-year average (369).
- 12 deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate were registered in week 5 of 2024, eight less than the previous week. These represented 3.4% of all deaths registered in that week.
- For 2024, by 2 February, 48.9% of deaths were males and 51.1% were females. Just over two-thirds (68.9%) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- From week 1 of 2024, to the week ending 2 February, there have been 1,930 deaths registered. 939 (48.7%) of these took place in hospital, 366 (19.0%) in care homes and 625 (32.4%) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.

- The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 2 February (including those registered up to and including 7 February 2024) was 306.
