The tables containing data on deaths registered for the weeks up to week ending 3 January 2025 were released at 9.30am today.
It should be noted that the total number of registrations completed in week 1 may have been impacted by office closures during the Christmas and new year holidays.

Date of registration
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 3 January (week 1) was 416.
- The number of expected deaths for week 1 was estimated at 431, using the methodology based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 1 was estimated at -15.
- For 2025, by 3 January, 51.7 % of deaths were males and 48.3 % were females. Over two-thirds (69.7 %) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- In week 1 of 2025, there have been 416 deaths registered. 194 (46.6 %) of these took place in hospital, 81 (19.5 %) in care homes and 141 (33.9 %) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.

- The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 3 January (including those registered up to and including 8 January 2025) was 344.
