UK harmonisation

How we work closely with other census offices across the UK to plan the 2011 Census and publish results.

National Statistician and Registrars General's Agreement

The Registrars General of England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland agreed to conduct censuses simultaneously throughout the UK in 2011.

The aim is to promote UK harmonisation and produce consistent and coherent outputs for the UK and each component country. To achieve this, several UK-wide Committees have been set up to consider different areas of census development where common methodologies and approaches can be adopted.
