NISRA statisticians in the Department of Health have published accredited official statistics on emergency care waiting times for the January to March 2025 period.
During March 2025
- Total attendances: 67,871 patients attended emergency departments
- Triage waiting time: Median of 13 minutes from arrival to initial assessment
- Treatment waiting time: Median of 83 minutes from triage to start of treatment
- Left without treatment: 6.8% of attendances left before treatment was complete
- GP referrals: 11.8% of attendances had been referred by a GP
Performance against targets
- 4-hour performance: 44.5% of patients treated and discharged or admitted within 4 hours
- 12-hour waits: 10,827 patients waited more than 12 hours
- Treatment: 59.8% commenced treatment within 2 hours of triage.
