The Labour Force Survey (LFS) young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) results released at 9.30am today indicate that there were an estimated 24,000 young people (aged 16 to 24 years) in Northern Ireland who were NEET in April to June 2021.

- In April to June 2021 there were an estimated 24,000 young people (aged 16 to 24) in NI who were not in education, employment or training (NEET). This is 12.2% of all people aged 16 to 24 years.
- The NEET rate among females was 9.5% and among males was 14.6%.
- Within the UK, NI had the highest NEET rate at 12.2%. This was higher than the UK, where the proportion of young people who were NEET was 8.9%.
- This release includes revisions to NI NEET data between January to March 2020 and January to March 2021 following the Labour Force Survey reweighting to include new population trends shown in HMRC’s PAYE Real Time information data.
