Measures that describe the spatial distribution of deprivation or disadvantage have been developed and used by Government and others in Northern Ireland since the 1970s. They have played a pivotal role in both informing the targeting of resources to the most deprived areas in Northern Ireland and monitoring the spatial impact of policy interventions.
The updated Multiple Deprivation Measures (NIMDM2017) replace the NIMDM 2010 as the official measure of deprivation in Northern Ireland.
The updated deprivation measures were released on 23rd November 2017 replacing the NIMDM 2010 as the official measure of deprivation in Northern Ireland and were awarded a prestigious Campion Award for Excellence in Official Statistics by the Royal Statistical Society and the UK Statistics Authority in 2018.
The Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure 2017 is the official measure of spatial deprivation for Northern Ireland. Prior to 23 November 2017, the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure 2010 was the official measure of spatial deprivation for Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure 2017 is the official measure of spatial deprivation for Northern Ireland. Previous iterations included the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure 2005.
In July 2000 the Department of Social Policy and Social Work at Oxford University was commissioned by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency to review and update the 1994 ‘Robson Measures’ of Relative Deprivation.
