The tables containing data on deaths registered for the weeks up to week ending 28 March 2025 were released at 9.30am today.
Key points
Date of registration
- The provisional number of total deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the week ending 28 March (week 13) was 341, 48 more than the previous week (293).
- The number of expected deaths for week 13 was estimated at 354, using the methodology based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for week 13 was estimated at -13.
- For the week ending 28 March 2025, the provisional number of deaths was 165 for males and 176 for females.
- The number of expected deaths was estimated at 180 for males and 174 for females, using the current methodology, based on mortality rates and trends. The relative number of excess deaths based on the expected deaths for the same week, was estimated at -15 for males and 2 for females, using the current method.
- For 2025, by 28 March, 50.1% of deaths were males and 49.9% were females. Over two-thirds (67.6%) of deaths were in the 75 years and over age group.
- In 2025, by 28 March, there have been 4,962 deaths registered. 2,281 (46.0%) of these took place in hospital, 919 (18.5%) in care homes and 1,762 (35.5%) at residential addresses, hospices, or other locations.
- The number of deaths mentioning flu and/or pneumonia on the death certificate registered in week 13 2025 totalled 48, bringing the total for 2025 so far to 1019.
Date of death
- The provisional number of deaths occurring in the week ending 28 March (including those registered up to and including 2 April 2025) was 268.
