Weekly death registrations in Northern Ireland

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began in Northern Ireland in March 2020, NISRA have produced detailed, provisional, statistical tables on deaths being registered each week.

Weekly Deaths Data

Friday 23 February: For the first time table 1, in the weekly death registrations tables, includes estimates based on the new UK-wide methodology to report on excess deaths. The new method is as advised by ONS in their blog post and methodology paper, and as pre-announced by NISRA in the October 2023 Vital Statistics newsletter and summarised in the information paper published on 20 February.

We will continue to include both 5-year averages (including and excluding 2020) as the previous estimate of expected deaths, in addition to the new baseline for calculating excess deaths, for the time being for comparison and transparency purposes.

The tables in the link below contain summary, provisional, information and sub-national analysis on the number of deaths registered each week in Northern Ireland, and, the number of COVID-19 related deaths registered each week.
